Job Description

The Community Service Officer performs a variety of specialized public safety support duties for the Rogers Police Department. This position assists with prisoner processing and transportation, non-emergency response, public inquiries, reports, records, and other operational support tasks both inside the Police Department headquarters and throughout the City.

This role requires professionalism, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to interact respectfully with the public, detainees, law enforcement personnel, and other agencies. The position is designated as safety/security sensitive and is subject to pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, and random drug and alcohol screening.

Work Hours :

Must be able to work any assigned hours or shifts with varying days off. Subject to emergency call-in.

Job Qualifications :

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain Jail Standards Certification within 12 months of appointment.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
  • Must not have any felony convictions.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug testing.
  • Must be able to work any assigned hours or shifts with varying days off.
  • Subject to emergency call-in.

Job Responsibilities :

  1. Transport prisoners and other individuals as directed while following department safety procedures.
  2. Maintain the safety and security of detainees, facilities, and assigned vehicles.
  3. Assist with booking, searching, identifying, photographing, fingerprinting, and processing new prisoners.
  4. Enter, update, search, and retrieve information using computerized records systems.
  5. Prepare reports, correspondence, records, forms, and data entries accurately.
  6. Take walk-in incident reports from citizens and provide fingerprinting services when requested.
  7. Respond to public questions and complaints by phone or in person and route individuals to the appropriate agency or division.
  8. Assist with non-emergency response to motor vehicle accidents.
  9. Release impounded vehicles after verifying legal ownership or arranging proper release procedures.
  10. Receive and send information to and from other agencies and jurisdictions.
  11. Sort, organize, cross-index, and maintain files, correspondence, reports, and related materials.
  12. Observe detainee behavior and report any concerns or problems.
  13. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills :

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with the public, detainees, law enforcement personnel, and other agencies.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow policy manuals, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, and incident documentation.
  • Basic computer skills, including data entry, word processing, spreadsheets, and computerized records systems.
  • Ability to use sound judgment when following written or verbal instructions.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and decisive in stressful situations.
  • Ability to follow department procedures related to detainee handling, prisoner transportation, and facility safety.
  • Ability to work around incarcerated individuals who may display aggressive, belligerent, or violent behavior.

Preferred Skills :

  • Experience in clerical, administrative, public safety, law enforcement, detention, corrections, or records-related work.
  • Experience using computerized records systems or law enforcement-related software.
  • Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of detainee behavior, search procedures, transportation procedures, and restraint protocols.
  • Knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment.

Educational Requirements :

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Specialized schooling, on-the-job education, or training in a specific skill area such as data processing, clerical/administrative work, equipment operation, or a related field is preferred.
  • Zero to six months of related experience and/or training is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
